Teijin Introduces Twaron Sliver for Loudspeaker Enclosure Damping

Teijin has announced the commercial availability of Twaron Sliver, a new acoustical insulation material based on recovered para-aramid fibers that is designed specifically for loudspeaker enclosure applications. Menlo Scientific collaborated with Teijin during product development and will support the introduction of Twaron® Sliver into the audio industry.
Twaron Sliver is engineered to provide broadband acoustic damping within loudspeaker enclosures. Independent testing indicates that the material reduces enclosure resonance, absorbs backwaves, and lowers total harmonic distortion when compared with conventional enclosure fill materials. The material is suitable for soundbars, home theater systems, and subwoofer enclosures.
According to Teijin Aramid, Twaron® Sliver demonstrates stable absorption characteristics across a broad frequency range while offering performance advantages over traditional polyester fiberfill solutions.
The material is produced from recovered Twaron para-aramid fiber, transforming industrial byproducts into a high-value acoustical material. In addition to its acoustic properties, it offers thermal stability up to 500°C and excellent flame-retardant performance, making it suitable for demanding audio applications.
"Twaron Sliver is the ultimate sound energy absorption enclosure fill, with the highest acoustical performance without the residual formaldehyde or itchy side effects of fiberglass,” states Michael Klasco, Founder and President of Menlo Scientific, who worked with Teijin on development and will be supporting its entry to the global supply chain.
As loudspeaker manufacturers continue to seek improvements in system performance, materials used inside the enclosure remain an often-overlooked opportunity. Twaron® Sliver demonstrates how advances in materials engineering can contribute to lower distortion, improved damping, and more consistent acoustic performance.
